Rating: Approachable & Local Difficulty: 4/10Mileage: 107 miles & 6,341ft Gain
Leaving from the SNRA in Ketchum at 10 am. We climb 19 miles to Galena Lodge-many delicious items can be ordered on the lunch menu to keep your pack light and your belly full! Then we have another 6.1 miles to the summit with 1526 ft of elevation gain. Then we cruise down to Smiley Creek—where again we have the option to eat at Smiley Creek or carry on to camp at Alturas Lake. There are 15 additional miles from Galena summit to Alturus Lake, 10 to Smiley Creek, and 5 more to the campsite. On the trip home, we have the option to stop for breakfast and lunch in reverse order. All in all this makes this a pleasant bikepacking experience where you have the option to pack a little lighter without needing much more than heavy snacks!
